“Tweet” with Sina Sichuan
Wednesday 27 March 201312:22

Today is Day 2 in Chengdu and I have not checked my Twitter timeline as it’s blocked here in China – behind the Great Firewall. Lucky for me, I discovered a micro blogging site that is similar to Twitter that is catered to the Netizens here.

What a cool office, wish Singapore had our own “twitter”

Wonder why China has its own micro blogging website?

Due to the strict and controlled measures of the Internet, China introduced its own version of “Twitter”, Sina Weibo, to allow the Chinese Netizens to post about their lives and share news with their peers efficiently.
The topics are mostly on entertainment like shopping, gossips (oooh, I like) but less often on current affairs and political issues. To-date, Sina has over 500 million users in China, with 20 sub-branches worldwide. Impressive, huh?

Users include celebrities such as popular actor Jackie Chan to Chinese athlete Liu Xiang. This viral marketing strategy is really efficient since many users who sign up are also fans of these celebrities. Could you imagine that our local superstar Stefanie Sun has more than a million of followers just on Sina Weibo.  Maybe I should create my own account so that I can be like a superstar!

Our tour around the office was awesome. I got the opportunity to see celebrity signatures and their photos with the company’s mascot. Best of all, I chanced upon the mini-studio that they had for celebrity interviews and tried it out. It was nerve wrecking but at the same time, I enjoyed every minute of it.

My team and I having fun interviewing each other in the studio.

Even after the successes of Sina, they are generous as they take care of the welfare of those who are less privileged. Oh, Sooo Sweet… Those underprivileged children and youths in the mountainous areas of Sichuan, are given utmost support. Speaking of that, I hope that they can make use of their charitable spirit and provide support to my fellow pandas in Chengdu.
